My goal is to inspire a genuine love for music while helping students become confident, expressive musicians. I focus on building strong technical skills, discipline, and independence, ensuring students feel both challenged to grow and consistently supported.
Central to my teaching is helping students develop a deep emotional connection to the music they play. We explore the story, character, and meaning behind each piece, allowing piano playing to become expressive, personal, and alive.
Equally important is a strong technical foundation. I emphasize healthy technique, efficient movement, and careful attention to detail so that students develop control and reliability at the keyboard. Solid technique gives students the freedom to express musical ideas fully and supports long-term growth without tension or injury.
Students are thought how to practice effectively, provided with time management skills and problem-solving strategies. Because every student learns differently, I design an individualized curriculum. Repertoire is chosen specifically for each student based on their level, personality, and goals to support steady progress.
Many of my students have been successful at regional, national, and international competitions, which can significantly boost motivation and a sense of accomplishment. However, participation is not required; it is offered only to dedicated, well-practiced students. Some students follow structured programs such as the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM), with preparation available through the ARCT diploma. Some have even earned National Gold Medals, reflecting a high level of achievement through a non-competitive path.
Students perform regularly in monthly studio recitals to build stage confidence in a supportive environment. Each year, selected students have the opportunity to perform with an orchestra, and I encourage participation in various performance opportunities outside of the studio.
Studying music theory further supports an understanding of structure, harmony, and style, aiding in memorization and expressive playing. I teach theory in direct connection with the repertoire rather than as a separate subject. I also serve as the Chair of the Maryland Music Theory Testing Program, preparing students from beginner levels through AP Music Theory.
The studio accepts a limited number of students to ensure individual attention and thoughtful guidance. I view parents as partners in the learning process and maintain ongoing communication to support healthy practice habits and realistic goals.
Admission is selective and based on student readiness, commitment, and current studio availability.
